Comparison of On SIte Consulting Rates between Apple Resellers and Horizen
Posted : 15 Aug 2002
As many of you are aware I do a lot of on site servicing and fixing of your systems. I consider my rates quite reasonable, and even more so after I did my latest ring around of reseller on site servicing charges.
For your info I charge $99 inc GST per hour and in 15 minute increments after the first hour. I only charge travel time out of the Melbourne metropolitan area and no callout fee.
I rang around 5 of the largest Apple resellers to get their latest on site charges including GST.
Reseller 1
---
$150 callout fee
$150/hr for the first hour
$75/half hour after the first hour
Reseller 2
---
$165/hr
Travel time at $88/hr (both ways)
Reseller 3
---
$150/hr flat rate
Reseller 4
---
$180 callout fee
$180/hr
Reseller 5
---
$60 callout fee
$165/hr
Most problems can be fixed within 1-2 hours unless parts need replacing. Upgrades can take longer but depends on exactly what work has to be done. In my experience getting a good tech from a reseller is a bit like Russian Roulette, sometimes you win, sometimes you loose.
Anyway, the minimum charge you would incur would be far larger than from Horizen. And the impression that I get from speaking to clients and even resellers themselves is that the quality of service is getting worse, with resellers being quite happy to sell you anything but not to support it afterwards.
