If you are a company manager or principal you might find this article interesting.
Topical article in todays Age on line by 2 lawyers. They discuss many of the legal issues regarding giving employees unrestricted Internet access. This is particularly important with many businesses now having high bandwidth Internet access. With blocking software effectively useless to restrict pornographic sites and many other issues discussed in the article it is well worth a read. One thing not mentioned in the article was industrial espionage, apparently a growth industry also.
The crux of the article is that there should be an Internet usage policy (and at a wider level computer usage) that all employees should be aware of.
In related topics : game and network game playing at work and access at home to dangerous/pornographic material for children. Believe me the kids know how to find stuff.
As many of you have raised issues relating to these matters with me in the past, I have some thoughts on the matter. I have some quick and easy methods to track usage if you wish to discuss any of this with me.
